Winter demands bizarre changes to ensure your car operates successfully throughout the season. There are several steps that you can take to prepare your car for winter driving, here are some of those tips that’ll help you drive through winters hassle free:

Ensure Your Windshield Wipers Are Winter-Ready

Make sure your wipers are in perfect condition before you head out for your first winter drive. It’s advisable to change the wipers every winter because the rubber starts wearing off by the end of the season. Remember to carry wiper fluid and to lift your wipers up when you park your car, so they don’t stick.

Carry a Winter Emergency Kit In Your Car

It’s better to be prepared and keep yourself and your family away from potential risk on the roads during winters. Your winter kit should consist of jumper cables, windshield wiper fluid, extra pair of gloves, flashlight, ice scraper, first aid kit, traction mats, road flares and some energy snacks.

Put Snow Tires On

Change your tires well in advance (before your first winter drive) so that your existing tires do not have to go through the winter cold. Regular tires lose their effectiveness as soon as it starts getting cold.

Check Your Car Battery

The moment it starts getting cold, your car’s battery starts losing its capacity as winter puts strain on it. So, if your battery hasn’t been tested in a while then it’ll be a good idea to get it tested either by getting a home battery tester or getting it tested by a specialist.

Check Your Antifreeze

Antifreeze prevents the water in the engine’s cooling system from freezing at that time of the year when everything around you is freezing. You can even test the effectiveness of your antifreeze by just getting an antifreeze tester.

Find a Shelter For Your Car

It’ll be a good idea to look for a garage or any kind of shelter where you can park your car. It’ll help you to protect your car’s paint job from the ice and snow. If in case you cannot find a shelter for your car, investing in a car cover might be the best alternative.

Check Your Tire Pressure

Make sure your tires have a good amount of air pressure and they aren’t over-inflated especially when you’ll be driving in winter. If your tires are overinflated your car will tend to slide more, rather than gripping on the road.
